Last Saturday night, the Philadelphia Gay Men's Chorus hosted its first ever masquerade Fall Ball at the Ethical Society Building in Rittenhouse Square. This sold-out black-tie gala featured a cocktail reception, live jazz band, live and silent auctions, a performance by PGMC's select ensemble Brotherly Love and special guest speaker Brian Sims.
As a member of PGMC, I was more than happy to chair the entertainment committee and I knew we had to have some fabulous girls on hand to make sure guests were enjoying themselves! First to walk the red carpet was Aida Snatchwell, looking spectacular in a custom-made evening gown and crystal-encrusted mask created by...HER! Yes, this gal was busy at her sewing machine and it all paid off that night because I saw her working the room in true glamazon style.
Messapotamia Lefae floated in and made several costume changes throughout the evening - all of them unique in that special Messy way! This girl was busy escorting guests into the party and chatting with them all night long. Gorgeous, dahling!
Then I heard that Mrs. Pinklewinkle and Robyn Kradles had arrived and were powdering their noses in the ladies room. I went downstairs and found two masquerade divas freshening up and they looked STUNNING! Mrs. P was showing off her guns in a sexy silver dress and kitty mask and Robyn looked like she had just stepped of a gondola in Venice with her shimmery black gown and scarlet Venetian mask. There's your red carpet wrap up!
I had these girls selling chances on a game we played later in the evening - and the prize was a fabulous night on the town right here in Philadelphia! They all did an excellent job getting guests to participate - I could not have done it without them! I didn't get a chance to count all the cash myself but I think Mrs. P came in first. Excellent job ladies!
It was such a magical evening - the drinks were flowing, the music was pumping and everyone enjoyed masquerading all night! We even had some cute guys in short shorts circulating - who wouldn't have a good time?
It took a while for our financial department to add up all the funds we raised, but the numbers are finally in! We set our goal at $10,000 in profit. Our guests were so generous that night - we raised over $45,000 for the Philadelphia Gay Men's Chorus!
A special thank you to these ladies who are beautiful inside and out! True glamour comes from within - and Aida, Messapotamia, Robyn and Mrs. P all dazzled me with a wonderful spirit of generosity and hospitality. Our guests had an incredible time because of you - and I cannot tell you how grateful I am for your part in a smashing evening!
PGMC holds its first concert of the season, Home for the Holidays, on December 6, 7 and 8 at Lutheran Church of the Holy Communion, 2110 Chestnut Street. More information and tickets are available at
www.pgmc.org. I'll be there singing and dancing to your favorite holiday songs!
