Phreaks And Geeks - A New Wave of Drag!

It seems there is a new revolution when it comes to drag in the city.  It may not be new to some but to those who follow the glamorous ones there is a whole world out there besides the Drag Mafia and the Dollstars!  I first became introduced to this underworld, so to speak, when I visited Qream last year, then when I met the amazing boys and girls of LiCK!  My eyes have been flung wide open to this movement of drag, burlesque and total bohemian living art!  The mix of creativity and total self expression has changed the way I see drag shows!  I applaud them all!  I have yet to see the Dumpsta Players but I look forward to their next show!
This is a new event that features many of the people on the forefront of this new wave of drag in the city!  So it is a must for all the drag hags!

... In a barrage of sparkles and blood, Rainbow Destroyer has resurrected pop and metal to make Zombie Pop. Sass-divas Rainbeaux Bite and Brian Reignbow are comin' at cha neck with slammin' fresh beats and sweet harmonies. Philebrity says, "The tunes are really entertaining — think Ke$ha if Ke$ha would once and for all admit that she eats brains."

MISS MARY WANNA
https://www.facebook.com/pages/miss-mary-wanna/285816722078
It's no coincidence that a heat wave hit Philadelphia the same weekend this lil' lady left her home for a taste of city living! She hails from the hills of North Carolina via the glittering sands of the Gulf Coast. Miss Mary now finds herself shaking it in the city of Brotherly (and sisterly!) Love, oozing southern charm and uncompromised sexuality on stage and off. Mary has performed with The Dresden Dolls, A'Naturale, Making Friends, John Howie, Americans in France, Juan Heuvos, JJak Hogan, Robosapien, Katastrophe, Nicky Click, Athens Boys Choir, Scream Club, and many more. She has also been seen making trouble with the short-lived Carolina Heartbreakers, Chapel Hill's on-again-off-again Cuntry Kings, Asheville's Tranzmission, Philadelphia's Screw Smart, NY's Rebel Cupcake, creating waves at queer conferences, Heavy Rebel Weekender (2009) and guest spotting with traveling acts such as One Freak Act (2010) and the Heels on
Wheels Roadshow (2010).

MESSAPOTAMIA LEFAE
https://www.facebook.com/groups/219169508123647/
http://messapotamia.tumblr.com/
Messapotamia Lefae is a contemporary dancer and choreographer, a post-gender character surrealist, and a freelance sartorialist. Through spectacle, sarcasm, and intellectual seduction, she intends to dismantle the social constructs that discourage gender deviance, neutralize creative self-expression, and perpetuate cultural disenfranchisement. Messy fled Rhode Island to study at Vassar College, where she performed with the Vassar Repertory Dance Theatre and Kathy Wildberger Dances. She enrolled in the Professional Training Program in Contemporary Dance at The School of Toronto Dance Theatre. Messy founded the House of Lefae Post-Contemoprary Dance Company and CDRW Dance Theatre, performs with the Dumpsta Players, was an organizer of the 2011 Phreak N’ Queer Festival, and is now an improv and project dancer in Philadelphia.

ALAYA RICHMIN (Dumpsta Players)
http://lancepawling.com/performance_art.php
Known for his outlandishly dressed drag performances with the Dumpsta Players, Lance Pawling (a.k.a. Alaya Richmin) has been transferring his costume-design knowledge to home décor. Magnificent embroidered and fringed lamp shades are his specialties, as well as kitschy doll-head tissue-box covers and bicycle-part wind chimes. Pawling's medium is found and discarded items, and he has a whole room full of treasures for when inspiration hits. "I never know for sure where I'm going to end up ... anywhere from a teacup chandelier or an X-ray lamp shade to a Last Supper collage in playing cards." Pawling, who says he truly enjoys "rummaging through neighborhood trash heaps in the rain at 1 a.m.," offers this advice to aspiring DIYers: "Comfort with your abilities comes with time, patience and tenacity. If you want to see the beauty the world offers, take time to observe." (CP)

Do not get me wrong as you read this article.  Most of these performers have been performing in the city for awhile.  They are just new to me and this site and to a lot of my readers.  As I follow the drag scene it seems that more events like this are popping up and I think it is amazing!  This is a fabulous group of truly original performers and this show is not to be missed!!
PUT YOUR PUMPS UP MY LITTLE DRAG HAGS!!
