Philadelphia’s award winning Liberty City Kings Drag &Burlesque AKA LiCK are once again producing the Mr.Philadelphia Drag King Competition, an annual benefit for the Philly Dyke March.
The judges for this year’s event are Rasta Boi Punan (Mr. PDK2011, Mr.GPP 2011 & LiCK), Elicia Gonzales (GALAEI), Kelly Burkhardt (TLAReleasing, QFest, filmmaker & photographer, LiCK resident photographer andgraphic designer, The Goddess Isis (Tabu’s Sinful Sundays & Voyeur’sDollhouse Revue) and finally a representative from the Philly Pride Board ofDirectors. This event will once again be hosted by LiCK’s own Mistress of Ceremonies The Notorious OMG and feature the skills of the incredible resident dj evil v.
For the first time (officially), LiCK and Philly Pride are joining forces and not only crowning the winning King Mr. Philadelphia Drag King2012 but also as Mr. Gay Pride Philly! In addition to judging the contestants on their runway walk, Q&A, fantasy/formal wear and of course their amazing drag performance, this year's event will also feature performances by LibertyCity Kings, Rasta Boi Punany, The Goddess Isis, Lascivious Jane and RichieRich.
I recently met Heather, one of the masterminds behind LiCK, while planning the TABU 2 year Anniversary party! Let me just say she opened my mind to a whole new world of gender fuck fabulousness!! Drag Kings and Burlesque dancers...Who would have thought? But this troupe of performers will blow your mind! So who are they???
LibertyCity Kings Drag & Burlesque have been a staple in the Philadelphia arts community for nearly six years. They produce a bi-monthly show “Vixens & Vagabonds Queer & Kinky Cabaret” atTabu, and have produced the annual Mr.PDK Competition for the past 5years. LiCK has made annual appearances at Philly Pride, Outfest, SisterSpace, Dyke March, and IDKE (International DragKing Extravangaza) in addition to performing for Dr. Sketchy’s, Her HRC, PhreakN Queer Arts & Music Festival, QFest, Womyn’s Fest, and The Stimulusevents. Over the years LiCK has beennominated for several awards and has won Fave Drag (PGN Pink Penny Awards2011), Gayest in Parade (Philly Pride 2011), Fruit Bowl/Best in the Parade (PhillyPride 2011) in addition LiCK’s individual performers have won Mr. Philadelphia Drag King titles, Mr. Gay Pride, and BestDrag King awards.
