So I have gone to the Candy Shoppe twice now!! And anyone who knows me knows I love a good candy shop!! Candy Shoppe is ICandy's drag show on Thursday nights at midnight. For me the Jury is still out on this show. The first time I was there I was disappointed that Salotta Tea, who in my opinion is always campy fun, was not performing. One of my favorite drag performers The Goddess Isis was there tho so she definitely got the crowd going. Even when she pissed off a female audience member by drinking her beer until it was gone. But anyone familiar with Isis's show knows...if you are in the front row...HIDE YOUR BEER!!!
I went back this past Thursday to give it another shot and to see if my favorite mess queen Satine Harlow would show up for this show (she was a no show for the Dollhouse the night before). To my delight Satine did appear as scheduled as did Crystal Tea Electra as the other special guest!
The show this week started with Salotta and Shelita Buffet by doing the theme to Lavern and Shirley (which was probably lost on a lot of the younger audience members, which there were a lot of). Then Salotta performed her rendition of Raspberry Beret called "Old Country Buffet" which was hysterical. The show continued with performances by Shelita, Satine (doing of course a perfected Katy Perry number) and Crystal . I will say Crystal surprised me with her Lady Gaga number!! The outfit and the performance was great and captivated the audience!!! There was even a crowd rousing but also very disorganized and confusing contest in the middle to win tickets to Rihanna. Congrats to the winner!!
Overall all the individual performances were great! Energetic and crowd pleasing, but for some reason as a whole the show seems very disconnected. I don't know if its the show, or the very different audience. Some of the audience members weren't even paying attention to the show. Salotta even moved one of their chairs so they were facing the stage!! "Look now you can see me!" I will keep going back though for sure!!
This weeks theme is going to be "Christmas in July" which just happens to be the Theme at The Dollhouse the night before....hhhhmmmm I guess great minds think alike.
