Here's A Story of A Lovely Lady...Miss Brittany Lynn Hits Philadelphia Weekly!

Another first for the legendary first lady of Drag in Philadelphia Miss Brittany Lynn!! Philadelphia Weekly’s “faces” edition came out this morning and Brittany is profiled. It is a great article giving you a lot of history behind the iconic Brittany Lynn. From her early days growing up in Northeast Philly to her first drag gig playing Frank-n-Furter in TLA’s stage version of Rocky Horror Picture Show to where she is now! The very “Behind the Music” story tells us how she pulled from the audience at the then 12th Air Command to entertain the crowd while the host had a costume change and how they were so impressed with her they asked her to come back the next week and perform….from that Brittany Lynn was born! Hey that’s how Courtney Cox got her start back in the 80’s!! The article continues on a rollercoaster ride about the rise and fall of the drag community in Philadelphia. The rise being in the late 90s-early 00’s and the decline coming in 2004 when the big club boom also was on the decline.
A memorable quote from the article talking about the high point of his career - “It was so rock star - limos, and private jets and anything you wanted, I was in my 20’s, so I could do 3 days straight standing on my head. Some clubs would put 5 hits of ecstasy in my pay envelope. But when people are handing you envelopes full of money four times a night, that’s what keeps you going.”
The juiciest part of the article comes when she talks about the current state of drag in Philadelphia. After contemplating retiring Brittany at the age of 40 her thoughts were this… “the new crop of drag queens around town can’t sing (they usually lip-synch) and they’re mostly devoid of personality.” “They are not a threat to my throne. Until they get a clue I’m still going to be here.”  Them some fightin’ words Miss Brittany!!! You have to admit the girl's got some balls!!  But you thats why I love these girls!!
The self-proclaimed “hardest working drag queen in Philadelphia” is still going…She hosts a weekly karaoke night at Yakatori Boy on Sunday nights at 9 and is the go-to gal for hosting events in the city! But I will say there are some other queens on her heels!! In my oppinion Brittany Lynn is the Madonna of Drag queens in the city (the gold standard) but The Goddess Isis is the Lady Gaga (the fast rising new star).
Go the the stands and pick up Philadelphia Weekly!!! It was a great article and I for one have a new found respect for Brittany Lynn.  She worked hard to become a drag superstar and she paved the way for the new crop of drag queens in the city!!! Truly inspired!!

  1. Hey babe-thnx for the kind words. I only want to point out that the "juiciest part" is not a direct quote from me-if you read it, it is the author's own words summarizing his take on what I had to say. I did mention most girl lypsynch, and I did mention most do not host or even wanna handle a microphone-the devoid of personality is the author's statement. And although it's a true fact, it is not a direct quote from me. Lol! But seriously, I love my girls or I never would have brought them to my stages and performances in the first place. Cherry was my backup dancer at Boybar at Shampoo and we also birthed out Navaya during the same events. I have hope for Philly's next generation-but I ain't going down without an epic battle. Love n lashes y'all!
